Wildlife

Elk in the wintertime have always intrigued me. Seeing their breathe in the freezing air gives me chills. Sitting in the comfort of my home, I can imagine the blood curdling scream of a bugling bull and the hairs on my neck stand at full attention. Not many things make you feel as alive as that sound.

Tutus and Mud pies

The Dickamore girls. Absolutely amazing little chicks. Believe it or not, it was FREEZING outside and they were the toughest little soldiers. :) Great job girls. When you are all rich and famous, remember the little people.

The wedding. Brides have always exuded a sort of unspoken elegance. Even without the dress, hair, and makeup the concept of becoming a wife sets forth a calm in a demeanor. This picture captured that for me, and is a testament to the beauty of the event, and institution of marriage. I wish you the best.

Photographer Pick

What can I say? I'm just that good. This picture is ideal, from the texture of the water to the cocky/sweet look on her face. Not to mention, check out those SHOES!

Rachel F.

This girl is quite possibly the most beautiful person I've ever met. Inside and out. It's amazing how a camera will amplify someone's true self.

Random

I've always watched in envy at these people who chase the wind with a kite and a snowboard. What a concept. This was a freezing cold day, but the sun was out, the sky was blue, and the snow was fresh. I'm glad not everyone hibernates when it is cold, and finds opportunity where most people curse the condition.
This picture made me feel like a child. I looked down a tree line, and saw a tunnel. My mind was filled with ways to make this natural fortress into a million different scenarios to play with. An explorer looking for a bear, a miner looking for gold.
This picture was my first magazine cover. I'm proud of what I captured here. I hope other people see it too. To me it's that velvet texture you can almost feel when the sun peeks over the horizon. The ambient temperature has no limitations on the warmth you feel. This is that moment where you breathe in slowly, and exhale deeply.

Let in the day.

Family Night

My family and I have always found "unconventional" ways to spend time together. My brother and I took a day to spend some time on the river in Heber. Not only did we get some great shots, we actually caught some fish. If you have never experienced the serenity of standing in a river, while casting a fly, you are truly missing out. The pressure of the river on your legs, and the slow methodical movements are beautiful in and of themselves. I hope this picture captures a small amount of what that feeling means to me. Quiet, peaceful, grace.
Here's my plug for Oreo.

So long sweet summer.
What is this child thinking? As her hands find the cool cool grass, she stares in curiosity at the small round objects in their hand. Does she consider the color, size, or flavor. Would she cringe at the tangy bitter flavor of a crab apple or smile as the sweet juice of a cherry tomato dripped down her perfect features. A child's mind is not limited by knowledge or experience and is still left to bound through imagination with enthusiasm and love.

Country Angel

Not to toot my own horn or anything but LOOK AT THIS! This blond little girl happened to catch my eye while I was doing a shoot with a Senior student. She sat quietly on this old fence and watched adoringly at her older brother while he posed for the camera. In a perfect world, I could travel around looking for moments like these to randomly snap. (Hence the title of this blog....) Sweet baby girl, never ever change.

A child's prayer

To my dear friends who's life trials have brought them to their knees, please know you are not alone. I think of you often. I hope you find strength. I hope you lean into the pain. This too shall pass.

Love always,

Carrie Mae

I love this child. I love her vinegar and her attitude. I love her bull bullheadedness and her spice. But every child, particularly little girls, have a side that is untouchable. Serene. I love this little girl. Tired from running, my niece sits in the middle of a dandelion patch. Because summer is closing its doors, the once petaled heads of the flowers are now soft, fluffy orbs that beckon to be wished upon. Facing the sunshine, she gently blew the seeds from their base and watches them dance across the sunshine. For a moment all that is left is the reminiscent aspects of heaven that exist inside of her. Exposed only in a moment of silence, but never ever lost. I love this child.

The start

They say the hardest step of every journey, is the first. I tend to agree with that, for the most part. However, this is the picture that spurred my desire to take pictures that most people miss. I was camping in Strawberry when I happened along this moment. It wasn't a hard step to take, it was almost compulsive.
A back lit image of a grandpa and his granddaughter walking back to camp. Her little legs were moving twice as fast as his, and with every step, she skipped. Harmony.  His face tells the story though. Although he is looking forward, you can tell where his focus really is. On that tiny hand that fits right inside of his. He looks strong, attentive, protective almost. I think she is floating. I have no idea who these people are, and I hope to someday give them a copy. But for now, they are a story of beginnings. Thank you.
